Create a category
Before creating your products, you need to create the categories that will contain them.
Go to the Catalogue - Categories menu
On the category page, you will find all the existing categories on your platform. All created categories are displayed as a table, one category per row, with: • the category ID (unique identification number) • the image and name of the category • the parent category of this category (if applicable) • the number of products associated with the category • the status of the category (enabled or disabled) • the visibility of the category on the front-end (online or offline)
- By default, categories are displayed from the most recently created to the oldest, but the grey arrows displayed next to each column header allow you to sort as you wish.
- A search field also allows you to enter the name of the category you are looking for in order to access it more quickly.
- You can click on the name of each category to access its detailed page.
To create a category, click on "New category" Enter the name of your new category.
Fill in the information for your new category • Enter the name of your new category • Select its parent category if you want it to depend on another category • Choose whether to enable it or not: note that the category cannot be used on the platform when it is disabled • Choose whether to put it online or not: when it is not displayed, the category is not visible during the customer journey on the front-end. Hiding a category can be useful to group products that make up a bundle when you do not want them to be rented individually. • Then confirm by clicking "Create category" You are now on the detailed page of the category you just created. On the Dashboard tab, you can add a cover image. This is a banner that will be visible on the front-end, at the top of the category page, above the products it contains.
You can then add an image that will appear in the back-end on the platform and as a thumbnail in the builder element called "Categories" Add a summary. Click on the pencil icon at the end of the "summary" line. This will open the text editor. Use it to enter and format your text. The content of the summary field will be displayed in the "Categories" builder element, if you use it. Add a description. Click on the pencil icon at the end of the "description" line. This will open the text editor. Use it to enter and format your text. The content of the description field will be displayed at the bottom of your category page on the front-end.
Configure the online display. The "General" tab of this block allows you to edit • The name of the category page in the back-end • The title of the category page on the front-end • The URL of the category. By default, it is made up of the page title. Save your changes by clicking "Update". Customisable out-of-stock messages per category The "Stock info" tab of this block allows you to customise your out-of-stock messages. For more information on this feature, please refer to this article.
Managing the suggestion of pickup stores on category/product pages on the front-end In the same "Stock info" block, you can define which stores will be displayed in the suggestion pop-in of available stores near the postcode entered by the customer on the front-end (category page + product page) depending on the stock origin: • either suggest all stores, • or only stores with warehouse stock, • or only stores with in-store stock. • This configuration works even without a date selected by the customer on the front-end; in this case, the suggested stores may not have stock at the rental dates subsequently entered by the customer. • => By default the configuration is set to "all stores". The pop-in suggesting available stores near the postcode entered by the customer on the front-end (category page + product page)
Header and footer tab On this tab, you can choose whether or not to display on the category page: • the header • the footer • the header specific to this type of page • the footer specific to this type of content. Save your changes by clicking "Update". SEO tab Here you can fill in the title tag and the meta description tag for your category page in order to optimise its search engine ranking. By clicking "Visit page", you can see how the category page looks on the front-end.
In the "Stock" section, define the stock type for your category By default, all categories are configured with hybrid stock: product availability is based on quantities actually available, both in-store and in the warehouse. However, you can restrict a category to a specific stock type in order to limit the reservation of products either to the store or to the warehouse. • Stock type "Store": only products available in-store can be offered for rental. • Stock type "Warehouse": only products available in the warehouse can be offered for rental. This feature is particularly useful when you use an external warehouse stock management system connected to Rental and do not want certain warehouse products to be available for online rental. Products From the "Products" tab you can create new products for the category. To do so, click on "New product". Then follow the standard product creation procedure - which you can find here. You also have the option to change the display order of the products.
Documents tab You can enable a customer qualification form. Customer qualification allows you to ask your customers to complete forms when they add a product to the cart, in order to collect specific and/or one-off information about the person who will be benefiting from the rental. You can also add documents to the created category: • Checklist-type documents added to a category are displayed when recording a return for all products belonging to that category. They are displayed at the "Product verification" step. This allows you to check, for example, that the product is complete and in good condition. • You can also add documents or checklists to each product individually. They will be displayed in addition to those of the corresponding category. These files must be added in PDF format. Product selector settings For more information on the product selector, go here.
PDF templates For more information on PDF templates, go here. Edit an existing category To edit or view the details of an existing category, click on the name of the desired category in the table.
In the Dashboard tab, you will find: • The cover image • The category image • The category name - editable with the pencil icon • The parent category - editable with the pencil icon • The category summary - editable with the pencil icon • The category description - editable with the pencil icon • The online display (General - Header and footer - SEO) • as well as... ... The latest created products. These are the most recently created products affiliated with the category. You can view the detailed product page of one of the products by clicking "View product page". It is possible to display products as rows (example below) or as cards.
Editing your category hierarchy By clicking on the list view icon to the right of the "Categories" title, you will see your categories in a hierarchical view. This configuration will only affect your back office and internal management. Here is an example of categories arranged in a hierarchy The "Catégorie FR" category is the parent of the "Apport" category, which is itself the parent of the "Abonnement" category. To quickly change the parent category of a category Click on the following icon at the end of the row:
In the pop-in that opens, select the parent category of your choice To remove a parent category, click on the cross at the end of the dropdown list row.
