What are the different errors a PSP can return?

What are the different errors a PSP can return? Whenever we attempt to charge a customer's bank card, whether for the initial transaction or a recurring payment, your PSP may be unable to process the transaction due to an error returned by the customer's bank. During the initial transaction, we do not record the error returned by the PSP on the ZIQY platform — the payment is simply declined and the customer sees an error message on the payment page. For your information, at this stage, the payment refusal can be related to any of the standard errors listed below, but may also be caused by a failure of the customer's 3D Secure verification. During a recurring payment, however, we will record the error in order to notify you and move the subscription to a WARNING or DISPUTED status depending on the severity of the error encountered. Detailed information about errors specific to your PSP is available in that PSP's documentation. Below you will find a presentation of the most common errors, shared across all PSPs. For more information on errors:

  • STRIPE, click here.
  • INGENICO, click here.
  • ADYEN, click here.

Where can I find the errors returned by the PSP during a recurring payment?

In the detail view of each subscription with a WARNING or DISPUTED status, you will find the bank response returned by the PSP corresponding to the error encountered during the last payment attempt. For more details on WARNING and DISPUTED subscription statuses, go here.

Temporary or non-fatal errors

Insufficient funds: The bank account does not have sufficient funds.

Payment threshold exceeded: The customer has exceeded the authorized payment limit on their bank card.

Card blocked: The bank card has been blocked by the customer's bank.

Card not authorized: The type of card used does not support recurring payments, e.g. a prepaid or single-use card.

Permanent or fatal errors

Expired card: The bank card has expired.

Lost card: The payment was declined because the bank card has been reported lost.

Stolen card: The payment was declined because the bank card has been reported stolen.
